Legacy systems impair business development

Today, more than ever, the competitiveness, economic success and future viability of companies and organizations in every sector depends on how well, how efficiently and how quickly they can adapt to digital change. IT structures on obsolete platforms have often evolved over the course of decades. These represent one of the major obstacles that have to be overcome. Such systems are often based on Oracle Forms, supplemented with in-house developments programmed in various languages as well as purchased applications that have somehow been combined.
Accordingly, these legacy systems are exceptionally complex, inflexible and slow. Operating them also involves extensive time and effort. An agile IT landscape that dynamically adapts to changing market requirements and enables the cost-effective establishment of new digital business models and optimized business processes cannot be achieved using systems like these. In addition, the necessary maintenance and support personnel are often no longer available.
However, replacing an evolved structure with a completely new development is not a viable alternative. Quite aside from the exceedingly high costs and time this would involve, many of these projects are demonstrably doomed to failure. This is because existing business-critical processes have to be retained. The knowledge they contain cannot simply be replaced.
Modernization is the solution. The objective is to make the IT structure clearer, more transparent and future-proof while also making applications faster and more flexible.

Reasons that require legacy modernization:

  • Operation, maintenance and care of the IT system are costly and time-consuming.
  • Operation, maintenance and care of the IT system are costly and time-consuming.
  • Difficulties finding qualified IT personnel.
  • An outdated user interface detracts from the user experience, leading to image problems and loss of acceptance.
  • Declining support from the software manufacturer and resulting security problems.
  • Cost reduction potentials for cannot be fully utilized.
  • Process optimizations and cloud services cannot be implemented via software.
  • The IT system is too inflexible to demonstrate the added value of the offer to customers.
  • Modern applications, such as service applications, chatbots, webshops, virtual reality or augmented reality, cannot be implemented or the implementation is extremely time-consuming and costly.

Modernisierung durch Migration – risikoarm und wirtschaftlich zur aktuellen Technologie

Whether industrial and commercial enterprises, banks, public authorities or software manufacturers (independent software vendors – ISVs), the continuing digital change is increasing the pressure to modernize legacy systems.
Migrating to a current technology offers you decisive advantages as part of the modernization. It enables business-critical processes, functionalities and data from legacy systems to be transferred to new technologies, modified and expanded as required. The existing monolithic IT architecture is restructured to create an individually designable, clear IT landscape and segmented into individual application components.
A partially automated solution developed by PITSS ensures a result comparable to a new development in terms of individuality, adaptability, transparency, manageability and maintainability, security, use of state-of-the-art technologies and operating costs. However, with significantly lower costs, in much less time and with consistently high quality.

By migrating your legacy systems to an up-to-date, future-proof software technology, you lay the best foundation for overcoming the challenges of the digital world, generating added value and reducing costs.
