Is there a JRE/JDK that is required to be installed before installing Oracle WebLogic Server 11g?
A JDK will need to be installed in order to install Oracle WebLogic Server 11g. Please review the Oracle’s certification matrix for compatible JDKs associated with your server/PC environment.
When setting up WebLogic Server 11g, I am given the option of whether to install JRockit or Sun SDK/JDK for the java runtime environment, which one do I choose?
JRockit is recommended for production systems only, it is configured and setup for optimal performance. Sun SDK is recommended for development systems only. When choosing a Java SDK, choose an SDK of version 1.6 or higher as mentioned in Oracle’s certification matrix.
NOTE: If you are using WebLogic Server for Forms and Reports, only Java JDK is supported.
Are there recommended hardware specifications for WebLogic Server installations?
Aside from the support System Configurations (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/downloads/fusion-certification-100350.html), there is no exact formula or specification for meeting hardware requirements. However, a suggested rule of thumb is one web logic server instance per 2 CPUs. This however could vary depending on the resources and number of users using an application, and how many applications are deployed on a web logic server.
Given that there is no exact hardware specification when it comes to rolling out applications and WebLogic servers, it is recommended to do a combination of load tests and monitoring of the system: CPU, memory, Disk I/O, Network I/O. There is also a website that has hardware benchmarks: http://spec.org
