IMPORTANT: If you are installing the latest version of JRE (Java 7) to use for running your Forms application on a client PC, be sure your Oracle Forms environment (version) is a supported environment to use Java 7. In order to specify a specific JRE to use for your application, you have the option to choose which JRE to use. This is useful when you want to use the latest version of Java which contains all of the most recent security fixes.
For our example, we will download the latest version of the Java runtime (as of December 20, 2013, the latest JRE is 1.7.0_45).
- Download the latest JRE from Oracle: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html NOTE: Be sure you have accepted read Oracle’s license agreement before downloading and using Java. Download the version that your Internet browser is using. For example, if you are using Internet Explorer 32-bit (even if the OS is 64-bit), you will need to download the 32-bit JRE.
- Run the installer. In the Welcome window, click “Install”.
- You may be asked if you want to download additional options such as the Ask Toolbar. This is not required so you may choose at your own discretion. When ready, click “Next”. NOTE: If you are asked to close out of any applications, please do so.
- Java will now install. When complete, a success message should appear. Click “Close” to finish.
At this point, you may test to see if you can access the Oracle Forms application. If you try to launch the application and a blank page is displayed:
- Go to Control Panel
- Double-click on Java (you may need to show All Control Panel items first)
- Go to the Java tab and click on “View”.
- Check to see if you see Java 1.7 (1.7.0_45) in the User tab and that it is Enabled (see screenshot below).
After following the steps above, click OK on all windows and try again. The Forms application should work without a problem.
NOTE: If you are using Firefox, you may need to enable the JRE 1.7.0_45 plug-in the Firefox Add-ons. Firefox automatically disables a JRE after it is installed.
